Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks a Scientific Programmer/Remote Sensing Analyst to support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in the quality assessment of land science data products. This includes data and products from the moderate resolution instruments onboard operational satellites such as Terra, Aqua, Suomi NPP, JPSS and POES. This position is located at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Work assignments will be done remotely until the NASA facility reopens, at which point a hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place.Position Summary:Duties include understanding the Earth science data products derived from the satellite instrument data, working with science investigators in evaluation of science algorithms and products, development and verification of algorithm changes to improve the quality of the operational products, research and demonstration of new approaches for routine quality assessment of the operational products. and the development of new tools to assist in quality assessment. The programmer analyst will be a member of NASA GSFC MODIS/VIIRS Land Data Operational Products Evaluation (LDOPE) team and will help in routine operational quality assessment and science data analysis, involving all land data products from the MODIS sensor on-board the EOS Terra/Aqua platform and the VIIRS sensor on-board the Suomi NPP and the JPSS NOAA polar orbiting satellites.Primary Duties:Perform quality assurance of space-based remote sensing instrument data processing Conduct science data quality assessment of remote sensing instrument data products Run data analysis scripts and program scripts for data analysis & assessment Provide weekly and monthly reports to LDOPE Team MembersRequired Education/Experience/Skills:BS or MS degree in Physical Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or related science background 4 years (2 years with MS degree) of related experience Must possess good programming, analytical, computational, and statistical analysis skills Must have 2-3 years of programming experience in Python, C/C++ in a UNIX/Linux environment Must be able to monitor, assess, and incorporate advanced tools and techniques, and enhance existing data analysis methods with innovative approaches Must be able to prepare summary science documents of various findings and present scientific results at science team meetings and conferencesDesired Experience/Skills:Experience working with earth science data in HDF4, HDF5 and netCDF formats Experience working with data products from moderate resolution sensors like MODIS, VIIRS and AVHRR Good organizational and communication skills are a strong plusGST offers competitive salaries; vacation, sick, and holiday leave; major medical, dental, life, long-term and short-term disability insurance; 401K retirement plan; tuition assistance; and opportunities for employee career growth and development.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veterans' status.
