AFP seeks an engaging, creative, and self-motivated individual to join our Communications and Public Policy team and help manage the strategy, planning, scheduling and implementation of AFP's internal communications and content initiatives for the association's 26,000+ members. Working with the Vice President, Communications and Public Policy and other staff, this position ensures that AFP content-including our daily newsletter, quarterly Advancing Philanthropy magazine, columns, blogs and articles for the website, along with social media, video and other resources-is timely, relevant, valuable and on-brand. This position will write (and/or summarize) and edit articles, correspondence and other items for various AFP audiences. The position calls for strong project management experience and an ability to excel tactically while advancing numerous concurrent programs. The position also needs solid and/or growing strategic skills to ensure content aligns with association priorities and member needs, the AFP brand is maintained and advanced, and our communications and priorities reflect changes in the fundraising landscape and the charitable sector. The position spends time working cross-departmentally with other staff on a variety of issues and is often in close communication with AFP volunteers, contractors, vendors and service providers. Major Duties & Responsibilities: Working with Vice President, Communications and Public Policy and other staff, ensure all AFP content is aligned with our mission and brand and ensures content and communications are valuable, timely and relevant to members. Lead the planning, development, publishing and management of AFP's newsletter, AFP Daily , published every weekday. Write and/or summarize articles and edit all content. Lead social media content planning initiatives for AFP, including editorial strategy, social channel prioritization, social asset recommendations (images, video content, animation, etc.), copy and messaging development, and partner engagement opportunities, etc., working with marketing and other staff. The role will also take responsibility for analyzing success of and tracking digital and social media effectiveness using appropriate analytics tools to demonstrate progress. Collaborating with AFP Communications staff and contractors involved in writing, editing, design and publishing, manage the entire life cycle of AFP's quarterly magazine, Advancing Philanthropy , from planning of issues to on-time publication and distribution to AFP members and subscribers. Manage AP Perspectives, a series of blogs written by AFP members. Manage relationships, plan, edit and publish articles and expand list of writers. Help manage the Marketing, Awards and Communications Committee and ensure committee engagement is valuable. Manage member communities in closed AFP discussion communities (AFP Connect) and develop new ways to engage members in AFP's communications forums and vehicles. Support the Director, Digital Experience, in ensuring appropriate and updated content for the website and be able to upload content to the website and other online platforms if Director is unavailable. Work cross-departmentally to serve the communications needs of the organization and provide general support to the communications team as needed. Other duties and special projects as assigned. May require occasional travel and weekend work. Ability to come to AFP Headquarters two times/week in Arlington, Virginia As with all staff at AFP, must be fully vaccinated against Covid 3 - 5 years of experience in communications, social media and/or project management Possess strong content writing ability, oral communication skills, and creativity, attention to detail and excellent proofing and editing skills. Strong project management skills and experience Ability to remain creative, diplomatic, calm under pressure Team Player Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional department, and to foster communication and collaboration internally and externally Strong organizational skills MUST be able to take initiative and act proactively while prioritizing and executing tasks.
