Assistant Director, CommunicationsStevenson UniversitySummary:The Assistant Director, Communications, reports to the Vice President, Marketing & Digital Communications, and supports campus communications and enrollment at Stevenson through writing and editing for a variety of print publications and brochures, advertising, news releases, campus emails, enewsletters, and websites. The Assistant Director, Communications, is a creative, writing- and editing-intensive position responsible for gathering and writing campus news and information for sharing via news releases, web, and social media; creating and formatting content for periodic enewsletters; writing and editing copy for university advertising campaigns, web pages, associated collateral, and the university's bi-annual magazine; and assisting with pitching select university news to media outlets. The position works under the supervision of the Vice President to send campus emergency, weather, and news messages via university's text system when authorized.Department: Marketing & Digital CommunicationsEducation/Experience:Bachelor's degree plus four or more years of experience writing and editing for the web, print publications, and digital and print advertising; coordinating, editing, and publishing the work of others online and in print, or equivalent education and experience.Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Demonstrated proficiency in the development and writing of content for the web, social media, print and digital advertising, and other digital communications platforms. Excellent English grammar with versatile writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to write in different formats and style for publications, social media posts, news, and advertising. Ability to network with university departments and stakeholders to source and compile news and information for promoting Stevenson's brand to various audiences. Ability to self-manage tasks and deliverables working closely and collaboratively as part of a Marketing Office team of graphic designers, web content managers, advertising and social media manager, and videographers/photographers. Ability to work with Marketing Office team members and various campus offices and constituencies to strategize, plan, and execute communications. Ability to use Office365 applications for writing/editing and email as well as learn new applications such as ConstantContact for enewsletters. Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, acquire news skills, and adapt to rapidly changing priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, and be reachable by cellphone and text during off-hours to send campus emergency communication texts/emails as directed by the Vice President, Marketing and Digital Communications. Physical Requirements:Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position requires keyboarding, standing and sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal. Position is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, and occasional evenings and weekends.Essential Functions: Conduct routine campus meetings to source news and information and coordinate distribution and sharing of news via campus communications outlets print and digital. Write, edit, and proof copy and final versions for a variety of campus communications, print, digital, and web-based, in collaboration with other Marketing and Digital Communications Office team members. Serve as a member of the Marketing Office team, coordinating the production and delivery of written content to support the timely execution and completion of a variety of marketing communication projects. Work with Vice President, Marketing and Digital Communications, to pitch select university news to media outlets. Assists with production, editing, and proofing of the university's twice-yearly Ventures magazine. Sources content, writes, edits, formats, and sends the university's quarterly SU Spotlight enewsletter to various university constituencies. Provide timely updates to the VP, Marketing and Digital Communications regarding high-level university news and developments. Administer and manage the use of the university's emergency and campus information text system in close collaboration with the Vice President, Marketing and Digital Communications, creating and issuing emergency texts and emails as directed. Serve as a member of the university's emergency and crisis communications team. Distribute emergency alerts as directed. Convey a strong sense of service to internal customers, demonstrating responsibilityto champion initiatives that address the university's academic and communications needs. Maintain and use the Stevenson University Style Guide to ensure the consistency of Stevenson's brand in communications content, digitally and in print, and communicate university style to other campus offices and divisions.
