Basic Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (strong preference for degree in a technical field equivalent military or government service, and strong preference for an advanced degree in business or technical field) and a minimum of 15 years related industry and/or government experience. Requires strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to rapidly grasp advanced technologies and how they may be applied to satisfying customer requirements. An ability to work both independently and within highly motivated teams is required. Experience in business development, strategy development, systems engineering, and in understanding government contracting procedures is strongly desired. Experience with the Navy and/or Air Force acquisition community is preferred. The location for this position is flexible. While the role can be performed remotely with travel and all locations will be considered, the preferred locations would be Washington, DC; Northern Virginia; Pittsfield, Dedham, Taunton or Quincy, MA or Scottsdale, AZ. Must be able to travel 50% of the time. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. The individual selected will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, up to TS/SCI. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, US citizenship is required. Active TS/SCI clearance is preferred at time of hire. Responsibilities for this Position: General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Vice President of Strategy and Business Development supporting our Maritime & Strategic Systems line of business. The position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense services and systems. GDMS employees work closely with customers, developing trusted relationships through innovative, open system solutions and reliable products that enable warfighters to carry out critical missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to identify strategic and technology roadmaps that help win new business for Maritime & Strategic Systems, focusing on Navy and Air Force markets. The selected candidate will be responsible for the professional development of the strategy and business development organization aligned to the line of business, including strategy development, investment recommendations, capture efforts and business development operations. Key Responsibilities: Be the business development lead responsible for developing strategy, strategic plans and supporting business captures to grow market share within the maritime and strategic market and specifically has accountability to meeting the Orders commitments for the Maritima & Strategic Systems Line of Business. The candidate will work with customers and industry partners and draw upon the broader capabilities of GDMS to be successful. Knowledge of US Navy, US Air Force, and restricted community electronics markets, acquisition processes, and customer strategies in the maritime and strategic market are strongly preferred. This candidate will also be a member of the line of business senior leadership team, directly reporting to and responsible for advising the vice president and general manager in the leadership, strategic direction and oversight of the line of business. The candidate will work in partnership with the Maritime & Strategic Systems Vice President & General Manager and the entire leadership team to develop strategies and support specific captures in accordance with the GDMS Business Development process. While we seek someone with proven ability to succeed in business development, we also place strong emphasis on proven all-around business leaders, who can contribute in many ways to the long-term growth of the Maritime and Strategic Systems portfolio. The candidate will also be the leader of a diverse and complex group of business development professionals, who themselves are aligned to the four business areas within Maritime & Strategic Systems. A candidate who can provide broad, dynamic leadership of a high performing team, and can further our culture of trust and empowerment is required. The leadership of the team includes stewardship of a significant New Business Fund budget, spanning Bid & Proposal, Selling and IR accounts. The candidate is also responsible for capture strategy leadership across the portfolio. Experience working directly with any or all of the following customers is highly desired: Navy surface ship and submarine network, combat systems, and electronics systems; Navy and Air Force strategic ballistic missile systems including security of these systems; underwater restricted systems, unmanned underwater vehicles is preferred. Experience working directly with any or all of the following customers is highly desired: Strategic Systems Program, Team Submarines, PEO Littoral Combat Ships, PEO Ships, PEO Integrated Warfare Systems, PEO Unmanned and Small Combatants, OPNAV, AF Nuclear Strike Command, Global Strike Command, US STRATCOM as well as all major defense contracting primes and shipyards. Technical background is preferred to ensure technical decisions can be vetted to ensure optimal solutions are presented to potential customers. This job is both strategic and tactical and requires substantial leadership in opportunity capture and business strategy and vision as well as an ability to work independently. Additional Responsibilities: Advises the Maritime & Strategic Systems Vice President & General Manager and business area leads on growth strategies, marketing, and management of resources for future program procurementsUnderstands the customers' expectations on what the warfighters need to execute their missions successfullyCoordinates business development activities across all GD Mission Systems lines of businessDeploys and prioritizes New Business Funds, sharing accountability for the short- and long-term growth of the Maritime and Strategic Systems business with the Vice President and General ManagerFormulates strategies and plans to win new business Identifies and recommends new business opportunities that fit within the business strategy Identifies and recommends new business capabilities and products required to execute the business strategyWins new business to meet the established business growth goals Assists in the development of short and long-range business forecasts and marketing plansPerforms administrative, analytical, and research activities in support of business development, acquisition, strategic planning, proposal development and/or marketing services functions. Gathers data on competitors and analyzes their products, systems, prices, sales and methods of operationAnalyzes and researches customer information, product/service preferences, market size, penetration, marketing practices and trendsExercises creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performanceDelivers innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers' changing business needsFollows industry trends and pursues technology innovation to ensure GDMS' services are cost competitive and superior to industry best practices Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. Combined Salary Range: USD $275,800.00 - USD $298,500.00 /Yr.
