Job Announcement

$2,500 Signing Bonus*

Under general supervision, transports wastewater residuals i.e., sludge, ash, grease, grit, and rages within the county or on state roads using load lugger or tandem trucks for disposal. Maintains vehicle in a clean and safe manner, performs daily maintenance checks, and monitors vehicle repairs that may be required. Keeps a daily record of loads hauled and miles driven. Must be capable of loading and unloading trucks in close areas.

Position is located at the Noman M. Cole Pollution Control Plant in Lorton, Virginia.

*A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Heavy Equipment Operator position after completing six months of employment with satisfactory performance. Applicants must possess a valid CDL at time of application submission to be eligible.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus three years of experience operating motorized equipment and/or semi-tractor trailers, as appropriate.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Class "B" commercial driver's license (CDL).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Experience operating heavy motorized equipment in an industrial setting. Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical card and must be indicated on application.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 50-75 lbs in a safe and correct manner. Ability to work outside in harsh environments such as extreme heat and cold. Work from elevated areas and in confined spaces. Must be able to bend, stoop and stand for prolonged periods of time. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
