Department of Mechanical Engineering Fiscal and Budget Support SpecialistThe George Mason University Department of Mechanical Engineering, within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), is seeking a full-time Fiscal and Budget Support Specialist. This position will provide fiscal and budget support for the Department Chair, its faculty, and students. The position will be located in the department office located on the Fairfax campus. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich the university's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:As part of the Mechanical Engineering Department team, the Fiscal and Budget Support Specialist assists the Department Chair in the management of financial resources to ensure funding is maximized for the department's best use, and to ensure compliance with all State and University policies and procedures. Some of the specific duties are listed below:Process faculty, staff, and student purchase requests for equipment and supplies through P-card, GMU eVA system, or other approved sources;Reconcile P-card purchases and submit monthly statements with required documentation through Bank of America Works;Reconcile department and foundation accounts on a monthly basis, and generate any necessary journal vouchers and personnel adjustments required to correct discrepancies;Process travel authorizations and reimbursements for faculty and students for both departmental as well as sponsored research projects;Monitor the departmental budget and financial resources in collaboration with the Department Chair and CEC Chief Business Officer (CBO); andServe as the department's fixed asset equipment liaison.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience;Prior experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks;Prior experience managing sensitive and confidential materials related to faculty, staff and students;Proficiency using e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office;Demonstrated financial experience; andDemonstrated written and oral communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of University travel, purchasing, and reconciliation policies and procedures;Experience working with eVA, Bank of America Works, and Microstrategy;Familiarity with a higher education environment;Professional demeanor and presentation; andBachelor degree in accounting, finance, or business.About the Department:The Department of Mechanical Engineering houses 15 full-time faculty.
