The initiative will drive policy and program innovation among eligible cities, counties, and states, as well as their critical community-based and private-sector stakeholders. Position Description: The program assistant will be a member of ACEEE's local policy program, providing research, outreach, and administrative support to the National Affordable Housing Retrofit Initiative to scale up energy retrofits of low- and moderate-income housing. The program assistant will work with a four-person team focused on the initiative and collaborate with many additional staff across ACEEE programs and partner organizations. This position will support outreach, training, and technical assistance (research and coaching) efforts serving state and local government teams that are developing programs to improve the energy efficiency of local affordable housing. The result of these capacity-building efforts will be expanded, community-driven policies and programs that accelerate best-practice retrofit activities that achieve climate change, economic development, health, and racial equity goals. The individual in this position will gain an understanding of local and state policies and programs to create more-equitable energy programs and contribute to a transformational project working to extend energy efficiency's benefits to under-resourced community members who have not traditionally reaped the full benefits of energy efficiency. Core Responsibilities:Support state and local government teams working to develop energy efficiency retrofit programs.Conduct background research on local policy environments, programs, and stakeholders.Schedule trainings, office hours, and coaching appointments between ACEEE staff, partners, and state and local government teams.Assist with research and writing for technical assistance products that have been requested by these teams (eg, program best-practice memos, policy case studies, toolkits).Facilitate outreach to state and local governments, community-based organizations, and other key affordable housing stakeholders.Find and manage contact information for potential applicants to participate in the retrofit initiative, with a focus on smaller, less resourced, and otherwise marginalized communities that typically do not have the capacity to seek out such opportunities.Help conduct outreach.Track key project information and resources, helping to keep project partners on schedule.Log outreach efforts and interactions with state and local government teams.Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings, synthesizing notes and action items and sharing notes with attendees.Track deliverable due dates and conduct follow-up on outstanding action items.Organize reports, memos, toolkits, and other resources in the initiative's internal resource library.Work in concert with other ACEEE staff to manage our relationships with partner organizations, including schedule-coordination among partners.Expectations:Highly analytical and attentive to detailExcellent writing and presentation skillsOrganizational and project coordination skillsAble to simultaneously work on several ongoing tasks with competing deadlinesStrong social skillsHighly motivated, self-starterTech-savvy and quick learnerArticulate and thoughtfulTeamwork-orientedQualifications:Passionate about developing solutions that center racial equity and the needs of marginalized communitiesDemonstrated enthusiasm for clean energy and environmental issues, affordable housing, and/or social justiceInterest in cities and local policyRequired Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in social, political, or natural sciencesPreferred start date: October 24, 2022. The position is located in Washington, DC, or can be remote. Salary: This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range is $44,452 - $55,565. ACEEE's generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike-share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
