Principal Associate Risk Guide, Risk Management - Enterprise Services Business Risk Office

The Enterprise Service Business Risk Office provides risk management support to several lines of business including: Tech, Digital, Brand, Work Place Solutions (WPS), Enterprise Supplier Management (ESM), Corporate Security, One Design, External Affairs and Capital One Ventures. We are on the cutting edge of risk management and provide support for new and emerging technologies as well as critical business strategies. This role supports Capital One External Affairs. External Affairs works with many external and internal stakeholders to envision and create a world of greater socioeconomic opportunity through advocating for an inclusive society, building thriving communities, and creating financial tools that enrich lives. External Affairs teams include Communications, Community Impact and Investment, Community Finance, CRA Strategy and Program Management, the Government and Political Affairs Group, Regulatory Relations, and Strategy and Engagement.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of process management strategies, risk methodologies and ability to build relationships with business and risk partners. Core responsibilities include oversight of ES process hierarchy, critical business process identification and consultation, risk identification, and horizontal support for ES controls program. Initiates and executes process improvements, developments and delivers risk reporting to executives. Our team is passionate about proactively identifying current and emerging risks by utilizing technology to gather insights, analyzing datasets, and synthesizing the evolving risk landscape.

You should consider this role if you're someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and working with a variety of teams and risk advisors across the enterprise. This role operates within a dynamic environment with changing conditions and a core component of success is building relationships and influencing decision makers with grounded information. In this role you'll need to manage multiple deliverables at the same time while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and clear communication.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with External Affairs and leverage a trusted advisor model to support business initiatives, issue management, process improvement, control testing and related risk assessment activities
  • Develop a deep understanding of business strategies, products, services, and risk profile
  • Implement process improvements: process certification framework, process hierarchy change management, change control, and risk reporting
  • Oversee, review and manage ES process hierarchy (L1/L2 processes)
  • Ensure independent escalation of risk management gaps, issues, and concerns, including emerging risks and regulatory focus areas
  • Consult on Risks across the first line of defense business partners providing advice and guidance as needed
  • Participate in processes criticality assessments and process level assessments
  • Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines
  • Communicate complex ideas concisely and convincingly, adjust communication to the audience and comfortable with presenting to executive leadership.
  • Collaborative, values diverse perspectives and seeks insights from others. Brings energy to the group and rallies them around a common goal.


Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk Management
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting internal business clients
  • At least 3 years of experience in project, process, or program management
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results and communicate with all levels


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in Risk Management
  • 5+ years of experience in Change or Process Management
  • Risk Certifications (CRCM, CAMS, CIPP, ABA Risk Management Certification)
  • Business Process Management certification, Lean or Green Belt Certification
