Duties

• You will perform all aspects of architectural design for a variety of installation shore facility types, including architectural programming, space planning, concept design development, sustainable design, cost estimates and other required services.
• You will prepare design, construction documents, cost estimates, and specifications for new and renovation projects using architectural CAD software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
• You will investigate and evaluate architectural issues and concerns in existing facilities to develop recommendations and options for remediation or corrective measures.
• You will perform design management and oversight on the execution of multidisciplinary design projects, tracking the progress of projects to ensure they are kept within budget and completed within allotted design schedules.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing architectural concepts, theories, principles, practices and techniques to plan, design, manage, construct, preserve, restore, rehab, oversee, and maintain a wide range of shore installation facilities projects; 2) Ensuring federal guide specifications, criteria, policy, building codes, safety policies and standard practices are followed in architectural design; 3) Communicating proposed architectural designs and study results to personnel; and 4) Overseeing, leading, and/or assisting in the budgeting, planning, and project management for architectural and design services.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture;
OR
A bachelor's or higher degree in a field related to architecture that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems;
OR
A combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, aesthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities
OR
An applicant lacking a degree in architecture, 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture that demonstrates the acquisition of a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. (Note - In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required).

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional physical activity is required including walking, climbing or bending in the performance of field work for designs and during field inspections of existing and/or new facilities during design and construction.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Travel to CONUS and OCONUS activities for assigned projects is required. There are occasional factory visits, and exposures to conditions in buildings and facilities that are under construction. Travel in support of military operations is also occasionally required. Percentage of travel is15%.
