Position SummaryThe Communications Coordinator provides support across wide-ranging strategic communications priorities required by Destination DC (DDC) to reach its goals and to fulfill its mission as the destination marketing organization for the nation's capital. Areas of focus will include media relations, corporate-focused content and presentations. The person in this role will have the opportunity to pitch media, contribute substantively and develop creative content ideas. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and communicator. The position reports to the Director of Communications. Employees are currently working 2 to 3 days from home.Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):Pitches media in targeted markets, such as sports. Fulfills individual journalist requests as assigned including research, fact-checking, trip planning.Generates weekly clip reports that include DDC-earned coverage highlighting Washington, DC as a leisure and meetings destination. Aids in tracking and monthly and quarterly reporting. Helps create and maintain media lists.Manages the content in the press room on washington.org.Drafts press releases, journalist newsletter copy and other creative editorial content as assigned. Assists in planning and participates in press events to highlight organization's programs and objectives. Develops content ideas to support corporate social media across platforms including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Works with creative team to secure photography and video assets for channels. Works with creative project manager and team members to maintain a comprehensive library of current PowerPoint slides and presentations.Assists the director of communications in all stages of internal presentation coaching.Helps coordinate press tours for groups and individual journalists, including obtaining transportation, accommodations, attraction passes, meals and interviews as needed. Assists in hosting journalists. Works with members to host journalists and provide subsequent coverage. Supports the director of communications and manages special projects as assigned. Experience, Competencies & EducationOne to three (1-3) years of public relations, journalistic or marketing experience.Four-year degree from an academic institution in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications required.
