Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a part-time writer with demonstrated experience writing and editing engaging content. This candidate will be responsible for developing compelling stories, narratives and key messages for the corporate marketing team.

The writer will be responsible for developing effective internal and public outreach content as well as creating content that aligns with Aptive's overarching communication and marketing goals. The writer uses communications consulting, research, interviews, journalistic skills and storytelling to advance Aptive's goals and objectives. The writer will standardize messaging across various platforms to promote a unified communications approach. The writer will lead Aptive's Thought Leadership Program and coordinate content to support its aim.

The writer will also be responsible for developing the following (to include research, coordination, writing, editing, reviewing and other preparatory activities):
  • Thought leadership articles (in partnership with leaders, subject matter experts, industry partners, etc.)
  • Articles about corporate shared services entities
  • Employee interviews
  • Project deep dives
  • Case studies
  • Industry reflection pieces
  • Newsletter content
  • Social media content

To be successful in this position, the writer will need to have strong customer interaction skills and a demonstrated ability to work with various stakeholders across multiple tasks. Experience developing and delivering compelling, informative and well-written prose is a requirement. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proactive problem-solver and action-oriented team player with previous experience translating complex information into plain language. He/she must be committed to providing superior service, poised in a fast-paced environment and have a positive and flexible attitude.

This is a Senior Associate level, part-time remote position with the option to work from Aptive headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Originate and prepare written material, such as articles, stories, case studies, reflection pieces, speeches, op-eds, advertorials, industry content and other material.
  • Research, write, edit and manage a broad range of communications materials.
  • Employ plain-language principles to ensure materials are easy to read, understand and use.
  • Interview sources, develop content that conveys critical information reflecting key messages, fact check copy and edit material for distribution.
  • Develop themes, concepts, messaging and distribution tactics for marketing materials.
  • Plan, generate and deliver client-ready materials for stakeholders, including Aptive leadership.
  • Create and implement content calendars.
  • Write, review and edit content in compliance with AP style and other Aptive guidelines.
  • Support Aptive internal communication efforts and collaborate with Aptive corporate marketing team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience writing and editing in a communications, journalism, or media capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
  • Experience supporting corporate communications teams, ideally for companies that provide professional services to the federal government.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
