About the Washington Post Product Marketing Team:

The Product Marketing team within The Washington Post's Client Solutions Group is the connective thread between the Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom and a dynamic team of Brand Strategists. A team of passionate storytellers and operational experts, Product Marketing is committed to amplifying the work of Post journalists and extending the impact of their reporting through strategic client partnerships. With a focus on the Post's mission to scrutinize power and empower audiences, the Product Marketing team partners with the newsroom to create captivating narratives that drive revenue through sponsorships and enterprise partnerships. We are looking for a Content Strategy & Partnerships, Director to be the ‘editor-in-chief' for our newsroom-aligned opportunities and narratives and to lead a talented team of Product Marketers who position our unique solutions to the advertising marketplace. In this role, the Content Strategy & Partnerships, Director will also play an integral role in orchestrating enterprise relationships between our advertising partners and the newsroom, revealing synergies that bring value to all parties.

Responsibilities:
  • Cultivate and own the go-to-market voice of The Washington Post for agency and advertising partners
  • Lead a team of 3-4 direct reports
  • Establish and implement a clear narrative format for all external-facing collateral; Manage quality control of all collateral
  • Cultivate strong, trusted relationships with newsroom stakeholders and maintain a clear, proactive vision of the newsroom product roadmap
  • Work cross-functionally with the newsroom, brand strategist, the Creative Group and the sales team to balance the needs of the newsroom and revenue demands
  • Deliver on a calendar/cadence of product releases that coalesce newsroom strategy with marketplace-centric solutions
  • Work closely with Audience Insights team to anchor storytelling in newsroom and/or marketplace insights and trends
  • Lead the positioning of core product storytelling surrounding areas of the newsroom that are essential to revenue
  • Champion emerging newsroom products and provide education to brand strategy and client partners to drive success
  • Work closely with the Director, Product Marketing and Manager, Product Marketing to:
    • Develop an overall newsroom product strategy and product release cadence
    • Surface ways to leverage newsroom products to secure enterprise partnerships that fuel revenue and product growth
    • Guide strategy and secure editorial buy-in to power strategic brand partnerships
    • Surface product insights and learnings to brand strategy and client partners
    • Develop demand gen materials and strategies
  • Attend and present during meetings with agency and/or advertising partners
  • Work closely with the design team on the visual identity and presentation of newsroom products


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years experience in a creative leadership role
  • Experience working with a newsroom and/or editorial team at a publishing platform and/or media company
  • Experience partnering with and securing buy-in from editorial leadership and executive stakeholders
  • Experience managing a team and owning their skill and career development
  • Exceptional judgment with the ability to determine solutions, and influence key stakeholders, based on limited data
  • Expertise concepting and developing product positioning and narratives
  • Expertise in using PowerPoint and the Google Suite
  • Working familiarity with project management tools and platforms including Asana and Trello
  • Working familiarity with Salesforce
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do what's necessary to accomplish work and deliver on goals.
  • Experience recruiting and retaining talent and developing marketing teams

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
$131,800.00 - $219,600.00

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
