The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is seeking a well-qualified Social Media Specialist, to join the Office of Marketing and Communications. One of 13 schools and colleges located on the University of Maryland, College Park campus, the Smith School is a recognized leader in management research and education for the global economy. The school is consistently ranked among the world’s top business schools by leading business publications such as Business Week, Financial Times, Economist and the Wall Street Journal.
The social media and internal communications specialist will join a creative, energetic Marketing Communications team at the University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business, to pitch, develop, create and publish multimedia content for social channels, website, internal communications, and alumni communications; with the goal of growing audience, building brand awareness, and ultimately driving enrollments to school programs and events. Skills include a working knowledge of major social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok), copywriting, simple video capture and editing, simple photography and editing, and project management.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, journalism, communications or related field plus 2+ years of related experience. Demonstrated ability to create engaging multimedia content and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Candidate must present writing samples and preferably also video samples. Inventive, warm and compelling copywriting. Excellent visual and written communications skills. Working knowledge of major social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok); basic knowledge of SEO best practices. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign plus Lightroom/Photoshop and Premiere; outstanding interpersonal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with all constituents within a highly diverse university environment. Ability to work quickly and meet deadlines; ability to manage multiple projects and stay organized; ability to take initiative, solve problems and deliver results without close supervision. Knowledge of and basic skills with photo and video editing software and equipment.
