Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a newsroom training coordinator with strong communication and organizational skills to lead efforts to train a staff of more than 1,000 journalists at every level of a fast-paced, multi-functional newsroom.

This leader will partner with senior editors to identify training targets, develop customized instruction, facilitate internal peer-to-peer training including weekly brown bags and oversee existing relationships with partners including Poynter Institute and Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.

The successful candidate is adept at multitasking, is laser-focused on details, can move quickly to convene internal and external stakeholders, execute on solid ideas that equip journalists in key areas such as editing and reporting, and be able to quickly communicate those findings to senior leadership.

We are looking for a facilitator with the ability to identify and build impactful curricula for media organizations and can engage successfully in a highly collaborative environment. The newsroom training coordinator will also work with the newsroom recruiters and the senior editor for career development to support efforts to build a digital training platform.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 9/20/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Senior Editor for Career Development Carla Broyles and Managing Editor Krissah Thompson.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
