Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a newsroom talent & community editor to help foster an engaged community around our journalism.

This editor will work across departments to lead discussions with our reporters on engaging readers, listeners and viewers of Post journalism on our website and apps. We are looking for a clear communicator with an eye toward audience engagement and inclusivity who is a confident, independent worker. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for journalism who thrives in a fast-paced, creative, continuous learning environment.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead chats and audience interaction with journalists around topical news stories
  • Pitch and execute short-term and long-term audience projects based on user input and interaction
  • Strategically pitch topics for community discussion around the news and identify and coach journalists to lead them
  • Coordinate community growth efforts with The Post's social platform editors, connecting our audiences, wherever they may be
  • Conceive innovative ways to use or develop The Post's internal tools and practices to offer our audience valuable connections to our talent and journalism
  • Uphold excellence in writing, transparency and journalistic standards.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • More than three years of journalism experience
  • Audience engagement experience and a demonstrated ability to work effectively across departments in a news organization
  • Well-versed in social platforms, including Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and Reddit
  • Writing and editing skills
  • Ability to think creatively and to pitch and execute new ideas
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment
  • A track record of conversational writing and creative use of audience interaction
  • A passion for The Post's journalism and its mission.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience representing a news outlet on a social platform
  • Experience in editing posts for accuracy and language
  • A hunger to create a healthier media ecosystem for Post subscribers.
