About the Brand Strategy Team

The Brand Strategy team is a growing group of integrated marketing managers and strategists who harness the technology, creativity and insights of The Washington Post to create marketing campaigns for our advertising partners that make an impact. Job Summary

The Brand Strategist plays a central role in constructing and shaping client strategy and proposal development---translating Washington Post clients' challenges into simple and clear ideas and platforms.

The ideal candidate is an effortless and strategic communicator with the ability to distill client needs into smart, easily understood solutions. The brand strategist thrives through creative thinking and agile collaboration.

  • Act as the main point of contact to lead and develop proposals ensuring concepts are purposeful, on-brand, with an ability to pitch ideas effectively
  • Weave insights and ideas into compelling, coherent stories and translatable narratives
  • Synthesize client direction, sales strategy, market trends, audience behavior data and consumer insights into compelling strategic platforms that translate thinking and spark creative ideation
  • Work efficiently cross-functionally with sales, WP Creative Group, Product Marketing, design, editorial, and research to set creative frameworks and strategies for campaigns
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop multi-dimensional campaigns that combine our portfolio of assets into compelling solutions for brand advertisers that deliver on KPIs
  • Lead, develop and communicate ideas that stretch across platforms, leveraging them creatively and effectively in service of the idea, the client advertiser, and the consumer
  • Attend external calls with brand advertisers and/or agencies to identify client needs, lead internal briefing sessions of cross-disciplinary teams
  • Become fluent in The Post's product offerings, audience insights and understand our custom content team's creative approach

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, with 2+ years of experience in digital space preferred
  • Experience working collaboratively within a media company, brand or agency
  • Strong interest and engagement with the Washington Post brand
  • Highly organized with strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills
  • Keen understanding of the news and media business
  • Possesses a respect both the creative and editorial process
  • Must be able to build trust and relationships easily
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox, including PowerPoint and Google Slides
