Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an organized and energetic journalist to join a new strategic and operational department within the newsroom. The newsroom planning editor will partner with teams across the organization to ensure that our most important and thoughtfully planned journalism is optimized in all aspects.

The newsroom planning editor will work closely with the team's director to oversee the implementation and maintenance of a newsroom editorial calendar that will serve as a single source of truth for medium- to long-lead newsroom projects. They will connect with newsroom departments to ensure that all strategic initiatives are accounted for, including enterprise, launches, expansions, investigations and special projects. And they will be a connective point from within the newsroom to other organizational teams, including subscriptions and brand marketing, to serve as a strategic partner by representing and providing visibility into newsroom work.

This role will be responsible for establishing connections and insights to improve workflow, maximize impact, make communications cohesive and ensure projects are audience-centric.

The ideal candidate will be organized and able to context-switch easily; both the macro and micro elements of strategic planning will fall under this editor's purview. The strongest candidates will be comfortable managing timelines across the newsroom and will be clear and concise partners to others on the team. A minimum of six years of newsroom or equivalent editorial project management experience is required.

This role reports to the director of newsroom planning and project development and is based in our Washington newsroom.
