Clinical Laboratory ManagerThe George Mason University, Student Health Services department, invites applications for a Clinical Laboratory Manager position. About the Department: Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provides services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis.Responsibilities:Performs point of care lab tests, including but not limited to, rapid flu, mono, strep, and COVID tests;Performs phlebotomy;Uses universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens;Operates required laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment;Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace;Responsible for any SHS administrative/reporting needs as pertaining to the laboratory;Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in the lab;Monitors inventory levels; orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures; counts orders upon receipt;Maintains quality control within the lab by providing yearly competency training to staff, performing proficiency testing with CLIA waived tests;Performs accurate scientific testing, research, and consultation to minimize errors in laboratory findings, scientific research, and fieldwork;Independently performs and provides consultation on specialized laboratory/research procedures and projects.Clinical Lab Management Duties:Prepares lab (at all three campuses) for annual and periodic inspections by internal and external auditors (EHS, AAAHC, etc.);Reviews all laboratory contract results and monitors any pending results or problems that might occur;Remains on call for the lab on evenings and weekends;Works with the Infection Control Committee for lab quality control;Manages the lab flow on a daily basis;Manages the Mason lab process for research performed within the University;Manages laboratory maintenance (weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-yearly, yearly);Verifies all lab results;Prepares the CLIA report;Attends regular meetings with Lab Corp;Reviews work performed in the lab on evenings and weekends.Required Qualifications:Certified Laboratory Medical Technician, or comparable (please upload certification document or documentation of experience);Demonstrated experience (typically obtained in 2 years) in laboratory setting;Familiar with medical terminology.Preferred Qualifications:Certified Laboratory Medical Technologist;Basic CPR certification;Medical office or other patient ambulatory clinic experience;Experience as a supervisor;Experience as a trainer;Knowledge of Medicat.
