ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Intake Coordinator is a new merit position working 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday).
Under general supervision of the Clinical Services Supervisor, the Intake Coordinator performs the duties and responsibilities below:

  • Monitor requests for Clinical Services daily and respond promptly to requests for services
  • Answer questions about the counseling process
  • Conduct initial screening, assess for danger, and plan for immediate safety
  • Provide information and referral for urgent needs
  • Determine scheduling and location needs
  • Obtain informed consent and other initial documentation, sometimes via remote signature
  • Prepare and troubleshoot for access to telehealth services
  • Assign persons seeking services to the counselor best suited to meet needs within the client’s schedule and timeframe
  • Maintain contact with persons waiting for services and schedule an intake appointment at the earliest counselor availability
  • Coordinate the scheduling of intake appointments on behalf of counselors
  • Perform triage according to urgency of client need and prioritize clients accordingly, maintaining equity in promptness of assignment and balanced staff caseloads
  • Communicate closely with Clinical Services staff and Supervisor and with administrative staff
  • Communicate with persons in their preferred language, in English or Spanish or through an interpreter in other languages
  • Communicate with referring partners, including behavioral health and advocacy, to facilitate referral to and from DSVS
  • Document all communications with clients in the Electronic Health Record and in within-office workflow management systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the department and/or division
  • Provide rotating shift coverage of crisis lines, to include some nights and weekends.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to create a safe and supportive environment for persons who have experienced trauma
  • Knowledge about behavioral health care practices and systems
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Clinical record-keeping skills

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services check.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in a field related to counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy
  • Direct work experience with clients in a clinical setting and/or advocacy with persons impacted by domestic or sexual violence
  • Specialized training related to behavioral health or advocacy (e.g., Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, or Domestic Violence Network Tier-One)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to read data on a computer monitor and operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to use automated technology to access, input, retrieve, and process information. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to transport self to various work sites across the County not accessible via public transportation. This job is generally sedentary in nature. Work requires performing tasks with risk of secondary traumatic stress. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
