Job Announcement

Performs general repair and maintenance of the electrical systems in county buildings, including troubleshooting and repairing live electrical circuits; working with voltages from 12 volts AC to 600 volts AC; and repairing all types of lighting systems (indoor and outdoor) used in commercial and industrial environments at heights up to 50 feet. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical main service distribution panels and sub-panels up to 6,000 amps while maintaining the integrity of the 3-phase supply. Reads and interprets building plans, performs installations, and makes repairs from those plans. Performs preventive maintenance and ensures compliance with the current National Electrical Code. Installs circuits for power, lighting and equipment using various wiring methods (i.e., rigid metal conduits, armored cables). Installs and disconnects wiring devices such as switches, convenience receptacles and dedicated receptacles. Operates county-owned vehicles, machinery, power tools and testing equipment. Works in a team environment and provides technical guidance to others. Performs related duties as required under general supervision. Incumbent is considered emergency essential. Flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back, and on-call.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:
High school diploma or G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; and completion of an apprentice-level electrical vocational training program. Four years practical, progressively responsible electrical experience may be substituted for the apprentice-level training program.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Driver's License
  • Journeyman (Electrical) from the State of Virginia (Required within 12 months)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driver's record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Virginia State Journeyman's or Master's Electrical License. Current knowledge and skill in the National Electrical Code.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to climb step ladders 14 ft. In height. Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 ft. Must be able to lift up and carry up to 75 lbs. Must be able to stoop, bend and work in tiring/uncomfortable conditions for extended periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
