Job Announcement

Oversees and directs the daily operations of the Division of Engineering and Environmental Compliance, ensuring the regulated community complies with the Solid Waste Ordinance, the construction projects required to support solid waste operations are completed in a timely manner, contracting needs are met, and that the program operations are monitored and conducted in accordance with all regulatory requirements, including documentation. Establishes and ensures attainment of long-term strategies, goals, and objective of each organizational component within the division. Leads long-term planning efforts for the Solid Waste Management Program. Serves as a member of the Solid Waste Management leadership team.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or a related field; plus eight years of progressively responsible experience in the appropriate engineering field or environmental science field, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Ten or more years of experience in the environmental field, environmental compliance, recycling, and/or engineering.
  2. Five or more years of Solid Waste specific environmental work experience.
  3. Two or more years of regulatory compliance program oversight experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate with public and staff. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
