Job Summary
Aptive is seeking a full-time Writer with demonstrated experience writing and editing engaging content for large-scale federal programs. This candidate will be responsible for developing compelling stories, narratives and key messages for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
This individual will be responsible for developing effective branding, marketing and public outreach content as well as creating collateral materials that align with CMS's overarching communication goals. The Writer uses communications consulting, research, interviews, journalistic skills and storytelling to advance CMS's goals and objectives. The candidate will need to standardize messaging across various platforms to promote a unified communications approach.
To be successful in this position, the Writer will need to have strong customer interaction skills and a demonstrated ability to work with various stakeholders across multiple tasks. Experience developing and delivering compelling, informative and well written prose is a requirement. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proactive problem-solver and action-oriented team player with previous experience translating complex information into plain language. He/she must be committed to providing superior service, poised in a fast-paced environment and have a positive and flexible attitude.
This is a Associate-level, full-time position located in Alexandria, VA. This position may also be remote.

Primary Responsibilities
- Originate and prepare written material, such as scripts, stories, blogs, factsheets, advertisements, and other material.
- Research, write, edit and manage a broad range of communications materials (e.g., articles, e-blasts, abstracts, presentations, posters, training materials) under tight deadlines.
- Produce high-quality and creative educational materials and products such as toolkits, brochures, infographics, and web-based resources.
- Employ plain language principles to ensure materials are easy to read, understand and use.
- Work with other writers to interview sources, develop content that conveys critical information reflecting key messages, fact check copy and edit material for distribution.
- Develop themes, concepts, messaging and distribution tactics for marketing materials.
- Plan, generate and deliver client-ready materials for stakeholders, including CMS leadership.
- Create and implement content calendars.
- Write, review and edit content in compliance with AP style and other CMS guidelines.
- Support CMS internal communication efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience writing and editing in a communications, journalism, or media capacity.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
- Experience supporting large federal agencies, ideally CMS.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
