Job Summary

Aptive is currently seeking a Research Analyst with experience conducting market research to identify audience motivations and beliefs and inform brand strategy. The Research Analyst will be responsible for managing the data collection and evaluation process to make highly informed, evidence-based marketing and outreach recommendations in support of the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The Research Analyst ultimately will help increase enrollment and retention in WIC, while reducing disparities in program access and delivery.

This position requires proven experience conducting formative and evaluative research, facilitating focus groups, and using evidence-based methodologies to measure participants' awareness, understanding, attitudes, and preferences. The successful candidate will be highly organized, systematic and proactive in delivering materials and meeting client expectations within a fast-paced environment. He/she will also be able to translate research findings into actionable insights and make recommendations for the client.

This full-time position is located in Alexandria, VA. This position may also be remote. Note, travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the project management team to ensure operational effectiveness and quality.
  • Support U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) mission to increase nutrition security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet and nutrition education in a way that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence.
  • Use traditional, digital and web-based platforms to gather data, conduct interviews, and hold focus groups with the intention of measuring customer awareness, understanding, and perceptions of USDA, FNS, and WIC.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research on emerging and appropriate digital media trends, tactics, and strategies with special attention to targeted audiences including pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum women, parents/guardians of children under 5 years old, low-income Americans, and LEP consumer audiences.
  • Leverage auditing, benchmarking and segmentation best practices to reveal additional insights and make recommendations.
  • Support cost-effective and innovative methodologies to optimize research efforts.
  • Monitor and control research-related activities, including planning, implementation, and integration of consumer research.
  • Track and report findings from each research effort accurately, consistently and efficiently.


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of experience conducting and evaluating both qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Experience managing data and reporting needs of multiple stakeholders and working across teams.
  • Deep experience using virtual platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom.
  • Ability to assign key performance indicators (KPIs) to newly established projects.

  • Strategic thinker with a drive to get all types of work done and a high attention to detail.
  • Experience with federal agencies, ideally USDA.
  • Excellent ability to communicate across all mediums and settings; superior consulting abilities.
  • Experience working in/with historically underserved communities, with audiences including pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum women, parents/guardians of children under 5 years old, low-income Americans, and LEP consumer audiences
  • Experience supporting large cabinet-level federal agencies.
