Job Summary
Aptive is seeking an Accessibility Specialist with demonstrated experience in remediation of video, audio and web content to assist with the development of compliant, accessible products in support to the education and outreach initiatives at Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Program Integrity (CPI).
This is a Associate-level, full-time position located in Alexandria, VA. This position may also be remote.

Primary Responsibilities
- Test documents and websites and perform all actions to ensure accessibility as identified in S&T requirements.
- Perform proficient Section 508 evaluation, testing and remediation of file types such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe PDF to ensure access to persons with disabilities who utilize screen readers or other assistive technologies.
- Test documents and websites and perform all actions to ensure accessibility. Remediation activities must comply with Section 508 and meet the standards identified by the OAST to determine if PDF, Microsoft documents and websites are compliant.
- Review documents' layout, design, structure and formatting, especially Tables and Charts, and based on its simplicity or complexity will recommend a conversion to Adobe Acrobat if the level of complexity will fail with use of Assistant Technology.
- Deliver SubRip Subtitle and Web Video text track files as the preferred format.
- Review documents' layout, design, structure and formatting, especially Tables and Charts, and based on its simplicity or complexity will recommend a conversion to Adobe Acrobat if the level of complexity will fail with use of Assistant Technology.
- Evaluate the elements of the document to assure correct HTML markup. Track any issue in call tracking system to report accurate report program health in a summarized report from DHS to OMB.
- Perform quality control reviews of documents and deliverables for Section 508 compliance.
- Utilize software tools to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document errors as they occur.
- Liaise and communicate with stakeholders to and senior team members to review creative and gather feedback.
- Understanding of accessibility testing, tools, and standards (Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act).
Minimum Qualifications
- 4-6 years of specifically relevant experience with Section 508 accessibility remediation.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Proficient in Section 508 evaluation, testing and remediation of media content and documents.
- Familiarization of videos, audios and multimedia file types such .MP4, .AVI, .ASF, .MKV, .MOV, H.264, and others is required.
- Experience providing text equivalent descriptions such as Closed Captions and transcripts in accordance with the Section 508 law.
- Must have knowledge of HTML and Section 508 law especially as it relates to CFR 1994 Sub-part B., the Technical Standards and Functional Performance Criteria
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience supporting executive level clients.
- Proven experience in managing multiple creative projects and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
- Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
