Human Resources is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining AARP enterprise-wide human resource strategies, initiatives, policies, procedures and related systems. This includes employee compensation and benefits, organization design and integration, talent acquisition, talent development and employee relations.

The HR Business Partner provides consultative guidance and coaching to managers and employees on human resources-related matters for assigned internal client groups. The HR Business Partner collaborates with HR team members to implement human capital initiatives in the areas of e mployee development and wellness, employee workplace concerns, manager coaching and guidance, performance management coaching and guidance, compensation and position leveling, and career advising.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and challenges and influences managers on implications of business decisions, trends, issues, and operating environment that impact both the business area and/or the Enterprise.
  • Provides consistent HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Resolves routine HR related inquiries, engaging with other HR team members as needed to provide a positive customer experience.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the Office of the General Counsel as needed/required.
  • Provides expertise and coaching in areas such as career planning, performance management, employee relations, learning and development, recognition, and strategic development.
  • Supports AARP's annual performance management process and manages routine performance issues including performance improvement plans and verbal and written warnings.
  • Partners with other HR team members to form cross-functional teams to work on organizational initiatives, projects and best practices. Collaborates with these teams to ensure high-quality implementation of HR programs such as performance management and compensation planning, leveraging resources as appropriate.
  • Reviews and analyzes data to identify trends and recommends solutions to improve the overall effectiveness of the organization, satisfaction and engagement of employees, and proper and effective leadership and management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 5 years of HR experience.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple client groups within an organization; proven client management and business literacy skills.
  • Functional expertise in employee relations, management and leadership advising, organizational design, and other areas of HR.
  • Ability to think strategically in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop productive and effective relationships across all levels and with diverse client groups.
  • Ability to diagnose and successfully handle employee relations and organizational development issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; must be an articulate and persuasive communicator.
  • Excel and data analysis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, etc. which govern employment policies and practices.
  • In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
