Job Description:

Linking Instruction Nurturing Knowledge (LINK) Club is an ACPS afterschool program that serves ACPS disadvantaged students and their families at various schools and community sites in Alexandria. LINK Club is designed to prepare participating students for the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow by addressing their comprehensive needs through a whole-child approach. LINK Club provides outcome-based, year-round academic support, project-based enrichment, and family engagement opportunities to the participating students.

LINK Club teachers will provide academic support in core subject areas as well as student-centered, project-based learning. Applicants should be available to work two to three days a week, Monday-Friday, for one hour a day at the end of the school day. Days and times vary slightly by location (Ex: 3:00-4:00 pm or 3:15-4:15 pm on Mon and Fri).

Location: Various Afterschool Sites

Salary: H ourly rate $48 per hour for academic support and $30/hr for non-academic support work activities

*This is a grant-funded part-time position.


Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license, or eligibility to obtain one.

Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • Experience working with diverse, immigrant, EL, and/or economically disadvantaged students
  • Experience with Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) practices
  • Knowledge of project-based learning models
  • Experience with Project GLAD, AVID, and RULER best practices

Essential Functions
  • Provide small group home-work help and remediation services
  • Organize specific grade-level project-based learning activities
  • Infuse technology with project-based learning activities to build knowledge and enhance creative expression
  • Teach skills and activities that transfer into continuous learning outside of the afterschool program
  • Treat children with dignity and respect, and meet the needs of individual children with an awareness of their interests, special talents and needs, cultural background, and individual learning styles
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and or professional developments
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or required to comply with the 21st CCLC grant.

  • Criminal Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test

Public Health Compliance:
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
