Senior Manager, Collateral Operations

This role will play a critical and highly involved role as a member of the Commercial Banking Operations team. He or she will lead a team of 5 direct reports and 30 or more Capital One Associates. The ideal candidate will need to take a strategic and customer-centric approach to building capacity and innovation.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide oversight for collateral boarding, monitoring, insurance and flood processes and platforms. This includes leading the implementation of a "best in class" target operating strategy and the continued simplification of processes to develop scalable, controlled and consistent delivery.
  • Identify new technology, regulatory and industry changes, and emerging business models in the collateral space to continue to drive innovation and well managed practices.
  • Build relationships and effectively influence the Commercial Banking leadership team (e.g., Risk Office, Product Management and Sales leaders within Capital One Bank) in order to define and drive a winning strategy.
  • Demonstrate strong people leadership skills. Effectively lead an organization of 30+ internal associates and external contractors across multiple sites, including; New York, Texas, and Virginia.
  • Manage horizontal functions including, but not limited to: Insurance, UCC monitoring, Collateral Onboarding and Release, Escrow, and flood.
  • Assess the current team to identify gaps and determine appropriate staffing, training and recruiting needs to develop appropriate performance standards and career pathing.
  • Oversee the management of regulatory audits and adherence to guidelines and standards that are compliant to Capital One Bank's governance framework.
  • Foster proper infrastructure and management controls, including; appropriate metrics, quality assurance, and capacity planning to identify and mitigate operational risk exposures and drive process excellence within the business.
  • Provide frequent reports and updates to Commercial Operations leadership.


The Person:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong balance of strategic, business and operational skills. He or she will be able to develop an innovative strategy, simplify and drive a large, matrixed and geographically diverse organization to execute against a multi-year operational improvement. This candidate will exhibit excellent people leadership skills to leverage the capabilities of peers, business partners, and associates along with the confidence to effectively influence the Capital One executive leadership team. Strong business judgment, communications and analytical skills are essential.
  • At least 5 years of Commercial Loan Operations experience, in a leadership role.
  • At least 10 years of Financial Services experience, with five plus years in a leadership role. Knowledge of Collateral management practices, processes and technologies.
  • Prior experience in a regulated banking environment; including direct involvement working with Federal Reserve and OCC examiners.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills required to lead a geographically dispersed organization. Evidence of training and mentoring team members, as well as recruiting new talent.
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills, including strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong management, organizational and evaluative process skills. Ability to analyze complex organizational and process issues and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business initiatives into clear and consistent operational strategies.

  • Strong educational credentials with an M.B.A. or Master's degree preferred


Work at Home Technology Requirements:
  • A secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions
  • A reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use cellular data (hot spot)
    • Cable or fiber connections are preferred
    • Internet service download speeds must be at least 5 mbps, with 10+ mbps preferred - check your download speed using a speed test. A sample one can be found here .     • Sustained ability to maintain latency less than 250 ms in voice calls is required
  • Hard wired connectivity is preferred, any use of wireless connectivity must be Private (non-public) and password protected through WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption. If you have any questions about your encryption, please consult with your internet provider
    • A private network is password protected where you have ownership or line of sight to every device on the network
  • Capital One reserves the right to request proof of internet provider, speed and service package from the associate
  • Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered. Capital One reserves the right to modify internet service requirements with sixty (60) days notice.


Candidates must live within 100 miles driving distance of one of the hub locations based in McLean, VA

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
  • At least 10 years of Financial Services experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years experience in a regulated banking environment; including direct involvement working with Federal Reserve and OCC examiners
