Awarded in August 2021 to the Parsons Team, the TEAMS next Missile Defense Systems Engineering contract has a three-year base period plus four one-year options that should take the period of performance through the end of 2028 into 2029. The primary purpose of this contract is to provide outstanding systems engineering services vital for MDA mission success at multiple locations around the world. Venturi, LLC has an exciting career opportunity for a Database Developer who will perform important work supporting Missile Defense Agency on the TEAMS Next Missile Defense Systems Engineering contract. The Database Developer will design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive technology database platform in a client/server environment. The Database Developer will handle integration, access methods, access time, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methods. The Database Developer will work with end users to develop database specifications, design system architecture, and be involved with the continued design and implementation of a new comprehensive technology database.

Responsibilities

Work you'll do

As a Database Developer within our TEAMS Next Missile Defense Systems Engineering team, you will:
  • Manage at least one complex database platform (one with multiple databases, large volume of data, or integration with more than one application)
  • Maintain database dictionaries monitoring and implementing standard procedures
  • Integrate systems through client/server database design and implementation
  • Revise definition of data as defined in data dictionary
  • Develop a data model describing data elements and define how they are used, following standard industry and government procedures
  • Maintain records of database usage, maintenance and other issues, generate statistics, and create reports based on database use and requirements
  • Specify levels of database access and assign database access to authorized IT staff and end users
  • Train database users and work directly with users to improve their effectiveness in using the database
  • Consult with end users to identify issues, questions, and problems with the database and to develop effective solutions
  • Recommend standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information
  • Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, like customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs
  • Use database management system manuals, industry standards, and other information to develop processes and procedures for developing, maintaining, and upgrading the database
  • Plan and configure the physical database environment for more complex database systems
  • Design replication strategy and database backup and restore process for complex database systems
  • Create workflow charts to define tasks the computer will perform, like updating records
  • Plan and schedule standard database maintenance and updates
  • Work with end users to identify necessary modifications and upgrades
  • Develop a schedule and budget for making database system modifications and upgrades
  • Recommend modifications and upgrades to existing complex database systems
  • Test programs or databases to assure they are working at optimum capacity, to correct errors and to make necessary modifications
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in the computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure
  • Schedule, coordinate, and supervise the installation, testing, and implementation of new products, improvements to the existing database systems, or installation of new databases
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine scope and limitations of projected modifications and upgrades as well as new database systems
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends in database systems and may recommend implementation of new or evolving technologies, presenting the business case for creating a new database system or using a new technology.

Qualifications

Required:
  • BA/BS degree in a STEM discipline and 7+ years of database programing experience
  • A thorough understanding of applicable database and project software applications and technology
  • Advanced knowledge of standard database concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of new technologies and current industry direction
  • Knowledge of at least two database platforms as well as knowledge of multiple script and programming languages necessary to create basic tables, views, and stored procedures
  • Proficienct with using multiple programming languages (e.g., SQL, Visual Basic, JAVA, etc.) for application development and database management in leading database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with team members and end users on technical and non-technical subjects
  • Written and oral communication skills appropriate for the position, including the ability to speak with authority on technical issues in various professional settings and to persuade listeners regarding best approach to resolving user's problem that may include communication via telephone, in person, presenting to large groups, or community events
  • Ability to write complex documents that may include policies and procedures as well as presentations
  • Communicate with a wide variety of individuals, including employees and all levels of management throughout the organization and outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with data integration and the ability to act as architect for data integration projects
  • Active secret security clearance
