Some evening and weekend hours are required. Some of the responsibilities are listed below.Administrative Support and Office AdministrationCreate, examine, and manipulate Excel spreadsheets;Engage in the review of policy sites as needed; suggest edits to and make approved edits to websites;Engage in drafting of correspondence, policy, etc.;Perform research on a variety of topics;Coordinate and schedule meetings as requested;Manage travel arrangements;Provide event planning support; andCreate and manage work order requests.Customer ServiceProvide administrative support for the Information Technology PhD Program; andRespond to customers through face-to face walk-in interactions, phone calls, and emails:Independently assess the reason for contact and manage requests from prospective and current students seeking information;Resolve and/or direct all inquiries appropriately; andShare responsibility for general email addresses.Outreach and EngagementPerform data draws and Excel spreadsheet manipulation;Perform outreach to student populations;Create and disseminate the Graduate Student Affairs newsletter;Send announcements and ad hoc emails to graduate student listservs; andEngage in and cultivate community, which may require a nominal number of evening/weekend hours.FinancialManage supply requests;Assist in budget management; andMaintain a purchase card for departmental use:Reconcile the purchase card account in accordance with university policy.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree; or a combination of education and experience;Knowledge of general office practices, equipment and university policy;Demonstrated clear communication and problem-solving skills;Prior experience applying previous experiences and knowledge to learning or problem solving in a new situation;Ability to exercise independent, sound judgement with attention and accuracy to detail;Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize items of importance with supervision and without;Demonstrated skill in working as a team;Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office programs;Aptitude to learn new software and Internet applications;Demonstrated skill in using institutional databases, public access sites, and primary research skills to obtain and organize information; andResourcefulness.Preferred Qualifications:Work experience in higher education, customer service, or an administrative position that required strong, positive interpersonal skills.A Force for Innovation in the Heart of Northern Virginia's Technology CorridorThe College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at George Mason University is comprised of the Volgenau School of Engineering and a new School of Computing.
