Principal Associate, Technology Risk Management

Technology Risk Management (TRM) is a growing organization focused on providing expert advice, credible challenge, and effective oversight of information security and technology activities to identify, assess, control, and manage cyber risk throughout the company. This organization plays a critical role in helping to ensure the company's risk-taking entities are aware of the risks inherent in their activities and decisions, the impact of their actions at an enterprise level, and opportunities to reduce, mitigate, or avoid the risks altogether. Associates within TRM are highly-skilled information security, cyber, technology, and risk management professionals who have a wealth of experience and a demonstrated ability to provide value-added recommendations and deliver high-impact results in their area(s) of expertise.

As a Principal Associate in Capital One's TRM's team, you will apply your process management, project management and analytical skills to deliver upon all organizational risk processes/requirements. This position will help rationalize reporting output for the department and support reporting requests across the organization. This position will require collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders, allowing the ideal candidate the opportunity to work with many different teams across Capital One. A successful Principal Associate in this role would help drive process management requirements to a timely completion, drive enhancements to risk management processes that would create efficiencies for us and our business partners, and support the reporting requirements generated from the processes this role helps manage. This candidate will be a highly-motivated Risk Management professional with excellent support, analytical, planning, collaboration, and communication skills.

Specifically, this associate will:
  • Support TRM's reporting and analytics needs, including the preparation of written reports and oral presentations to communicate identified issues and recommended remediation actions
  • Proactively identify process improvements that will improve Risk Assessment practices, including opportunities for automation
  • Support centralized management of TRM internal risk processes and deliverables
  • Collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholders (e.g. other risk management partners, business risk offices, and front-line risk / process owners)
  • Assist with performing transaction level procedures, including, but not limited to, identifying and defining issues, reviewing and analyzing evidence, documenting target area processes and procedures, and recommending remediation
  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis
  • Support centralized management of TRM internal risk processes and deliverables
  • Assist vertical teams with issue management
  • Assist vertical teams in building project and program roadmaps and project managing the execution
  • Assist in prioritizing of key project deliverables across all initiatives, sprint and project planning; analyze program dependencies
  • Resolve or escalate impediments to help the organization deliver on its top priorities


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
  • At least 2 years of Project or Risk Management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 years of project management experience
  • Passion and expertise in cybersecurity or IT
  • 2 years of experience working in the fields of information security, cyber, or IT
