Military and Veterans Services Specialist

Responsibilities:  Serves as the primary School Certifying Official (SCO).  Manage the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) certification process in compliance with VA regulations and procedures.  Report certifications, adjustments, and terminations of VA benefits and other related information to the VA.  Report short pays, over-payments, and yellow ribbon to VA.  Prepare VA certifications for coding into PeopleSoft for reporting purposes.  Maintain effective liaison relationships with departments (e.g. State Approving Agency (SAA) and the VA) to ensure compliance in reporting.  Report balance adjustments to the Business Office.  Review TA forms for accuracy and contact students as needed for corrections.  Maintain accurate records in military and VA databases, and PeopleSoft. Ensure compliance with BSU, state, federal, VA, and DOD regulations.  Respond to all inquiries in the general military email box.  Assist with the undergraduate graduation clearance process.  Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree required.  A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a School Certifying Official required.  Ability to communicate and work well with current/potential students.  Strong use and knowledge of professional business etiquette in the workplace. Ability to identify, solve, and follow through on problems.  Thorough knowledge of state, federal, VA, and DOD regulations.  Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records in PeopleSoft as well as the military and VA databases.  Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.


Conditions of Employment: This is a Union Position.  Please be advised, COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged but not required for faculty and staff to be employed at Bowie State University.  This protocol is subject to change.



SALARY:  $45,000 - $55,000
