Academic Coordinator The Intercollegiate Athletics department at George Mason University, an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Atlantic 10 athletic conference, is seeking qualified applicants for an Academic Coordinator. Responsibilities:This position requires an experienced professional who can provide academic support services to a diverse population of student-athletes in high-visibility sports. This appointment is full-time and reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Academic Services.Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of the university;Providing direct academic support for student-athletes, including but not restricted to, academic skill development, learning strategy assistance, monitoring academic performance and progress, oversight of tutoring, and assistance with registration and orientation;Maintaining student-athlete academic files;Assisting in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;Maintaining and applying current knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), A-10 and university requirements regarding student-athlete eligibility;Assisting with Athletics' Student Affairs Services to include the Student Athletic Advisor Council (SAAC) and community service;Assisting student-athletes in taking advantage of other campus resources;Consulting with coaches and other university officials on matters related to student-athlete academic progress and performance;Responsible for purchasing academic equipment (books, iClickers, etc.) and monthly reconciliation of equipment;Developing and distributing periodic reports to athletic coaches and other officials on the status of student-athletes; andPerforming administrative duties that contribute to the academic success of student-athletes.Required Qualifications:Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;Previous experience with academic support services for adolescents and young adult learners;Working knowledge of NCAA rules;Effective skill in the use of computers; andOutstanding oral and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with student leaders; andFamiliarity with university purchasing procedures.
