Academic Advisor / Academic Program Manager - School of ArtThe George Mason University School of Art, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Academic Advisor/Academic Program Manager. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities: 1) Provide academic advice and guidance to prospective and current graduate School of Arts Students and undergraduate Art and Visual Technology (AVT) students from admission to graduation in support of the students' academic and career goals.Support and engage students in the process of developing clear and attainable educational goals;Effectively interpret, implement, and communicate Mason degree requirements, deadlines, policies and procedures;Regularly review students' semester and long-range academic goals to ensure they are on target;Act as academic advisor for potential and enrolled undergraduate students, and answer inquiries and direct students to appropriate resources;Maintain confidentiality in accordance to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) laws; andAttend Orientations events for the School of Art.2) Coordinate and manage key operational processes for the School of Art, including graduation, honors program, student affairs and assisting in course scheduling and grading.Coordinate, monitor and assist AVT undergraduate students with the graduation process; organize and provide AVT graduation information for Academic Affairs; and coordinate participation from the School of Art for Fall and Spring convocation/commencement ceremonies;Manage honors eligibility program-monitor and submit documentation for eligible honors students to the Registrar's office;Work with directors to assist in semester course schedule for AVT-monitor enrollment and proactively address any enrollment issues;Manage grading process and provide knowledgeable, proactive support to faculty and students; may act as proxy to ensure grades are submitted on time; andServe as ex-officio member on the School of Art's Curriculum Committee as an expert in academic policy and procedure and other catalog information.3) Develops School of Art Outreach Initiatives in coordination with Directors, Alumni, Media, Outreach Specialist, Administrative Operations Manager and faculty.Develops strategies and implementation of programs for recruitment and retention;Coordinate events that engage students outside the classroom; and attend admissions events and orientations as representative of the School of Art and engage in outreach to foster program growth;Attends recruitment events and open houses within and outside of Mason as a representative of the School of Art; andBuilds relationships and programming with partners such as Northern Virginia Community College.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree and demonstrated full-time work experience in academic advising, or an equivalent combination of training/experience;Significant (generally five years) work experience in office administration, student advising, and/or management;Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures;Experience with advising technology/programs (e.g., Ellucian Banner, Degree Works, EAB, etc.);Demonstrated ability to work independently within established guidelines and best practices, and interpret and apply policies and procedures for key operational processes within AVT;Ability to handle confidential student information with utmost discretion and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and university policies, procedures and regulations;Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; andDetail-oriented, organized, and ability to multitask.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in the area of Visual Arts in Higher Education; andMaster's Degree.
