Basic Qualifications : Requires a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, US citizenship is required. Combined Salary Range: USD $155,000.00 - USD $172,000.00 /Yr. Responsibilities for this Position: General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Space and Satellite Systems Engineer with a RF background focusing on asset inheritance, system of systems interoperability, enterprise level test plan/report/procedure execution, mission CONOPS development, analysis and planning, and requirements verification. This individual must be adaptable and flexible enough to fit mission needs with an intrinsic ability to engage, learn, and share knowledge. This position is not daily operations as partner organizations complete the actual day-to-day operations, but a percentage of future time may require satellite mission planning. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems in a fascinating environment leading a team. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS: The Space/Satellite System Engineer will be part of a small team that supports a larger program. This small team through a keen understanding of mission purpose and system capability monitors and analyzes various overhead sensing platforms as well as associated ground systems and networks. As system capabilities are added or enhanced, the engineer will assist the team to understand if these enhancements continue to support mission requirements. The ability to review software plus system requirements, then plan and execute enterprise level testing may be required with discrepancies and gap analysis fed back into the SAFe development lifecycle. The engineer may also provide technical assistance in the development of next generation programs by creating day-in-the-life scenarios, contributing to overall mission CONOPs, and share lessons learned with the wider organization. The engineer will work directly with the team lead, SETAs, and customer. This position is within the customer work environment and requires a calm demeanor, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to act with technical precision and speed. MANDATORY SKILLS Demonstrated understanding of various SIGINT space systems architectures, basic orbital mechanics, and satellite operations to assist with potential asset inheritance Demonstrated experience with space mission management and planning activities Familiarity with satellite mission ground systems including development and functional operation Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interface on a daily basis with the customer and their technical staff. Contributes to detailed technical analyses at the System of System (SOS) level Configuration management of test and team systems engineering artifacts Ability to understand and communicate satellite network data, packetizing, modulation schemes, command and control sequence, and message flows Ability to elicit requirements from TEMs then document and provide traceability within JIRA or other requirement tracking tools Solid academic grounding and experience with methods and tools applying systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories Ability to document, prioritize, and explain system discrepancies to vendors/customer Leads requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements with little or no supervision Leads detailed technical analyses for a system, subsystem or system elements to include: concept, requirements, design, integration, test, acceptance, delivery, training, operation, maintenance and disposal Identifies, analyzes and resolves space/ground segment system design weaknesses. Synthesizes solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints Travel is not currently required, but maybe in the future ADDITIONAL SKILLS Solid understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering for comms and payload Knowledge of satellite and ground station calibration approaches Experience with Pulse Descriptor Words (PDW) and ability to understand explain signal parameters Space/Satellite operations experience and familiarity with TT&C, TLE, and ephemeris Demonstrated use and understanding of SE concepts, principles, and theories Demonstrated proficiency with requirements management, system design & system modeling tools Proficient written and verbal communications skills to lead staff and small team proposal Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment, and professionally executes projects with little direction Experience with Matlab or Python Experience working with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and other Agile software development efforts Proficient ability in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions Understanding of satellite design and subsystems is a plus May assist with tracking satellite anomalies and resolution Ability to keep an economic perspective when seeking efficiencies to improve customer value DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE: Typical candidates for the Satellite Systems Engineer position have a Bachelor's degree Systems Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Electrical Engineering or the equivalent and at least 10 years of related work experience.
