Communications and Press Coordinator, National Security InstituteThe National Security Institute aims to strengthen American national security and global leadership by educating future leaders and advancing actionable solutions based on practical experience.NSI is looking for a Communications and Press Coordinator who will be responsible for helping NSI increase its media profile, including developing and advancing its social media, press, and communication efforts. Our ideal candidate is dynamic team player, interested in policy, who is excited to jump onto a small team and start crafting new ideas and approaches - we are looking for someone who is ready to make a big impact immediately!George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Work with NSI leadership to develop communications, press, and media strategy;Develop and manage marketing initiatives, and new and creative methods and multimedia products to grow and broaden the organization's public profile and reach;Lead creation of applicable media documents such as media and press releases, talking points, etc.;Manage placement of NSI experts on media platforms, including TV, radio, and in written publications;Manage and develop media contact lists and relationships, as well as conduct outreach to new media stakeholders;Create engaging content for media platforms and social media accounts;Monitor media coverage on timely national security topics and media releases, as well as media and press hits for NSI experts;Update media lists and NSI website with applicable media hits, press releases, and other content; andPerform related administrative duties.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communication, or journalism, or related field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Demonstrated understanding of various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram;Skill in effective organization, with the demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities effectively;Demonstrated skill in effective verbal and written communication;Effective research and analytical skills;Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;Familiarity with Google Suite, MailChimp, and Canva;Ability to prioritize workload and adhere to strict content deadlines; andAbility to contact media producers after hours and on weekends.Preferred Qualifications:Public policy knowledge and/or experience; andAbility to interact with TV/radio producers.
