Under the direction of a Senior Member of the Engineering Staff, responsibilities include hardware design (electrical, electro-mechanical), packaging, wiring schematics, cable development, prototyping, system integration and test, design and test documentation, and support to manufacturing and the customer.This is a key, high impact role in the organization to ensure robust quality and delivery of communication products for National Security applications."L3Harris in Herndon, Virgina offers a flexible work environment to help balance your lifestyle. Join us and enjoy every other Friday off work with our 9/80 work program"A' Essential Functions:Typical duties of this position include, but are not limited to:Implement electrical and electro-mechanical designs from technical specificationsConduct research into the feasibility, operation, and performance of electrical systemsProvide technical writing documentation for electrical systemsResponsible for generating detailed 2D drawings and schematicsSecure design packaging to meet qualification in marine MIL-STD vibration, shock, and EMI environmentsDevelop technical performance specifications for supplier equipmentSource, assemble, and test protypes and new designsDocument Electrical system setup and configurationTroubleshoot systems for root cause analysisParticipate in factory and customer acceptance trials (factory and on-ship)Work closely with both mechanical and software development teamsProvide engineering support to electrical and mechanical production staffQualifications:U.S. Citizenship required. Candidates must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience2+ years of experience developing, implementing, prototyping and testing electro-mechanical assembliesPractical experience with both electrical and mechanical integration is requiredProficient in electrical and mechanical drafting using AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD or equivalentDemonstrated competency using electronic test equipmentAbility to fault find, test, and resolve electrical system issuesHigh attention to detail and qualityMust be able to manage own time and deliver to tight deadlines, following strict project plansGood communication skills:Ability to constructively express opinion and clearly interchange ideas and solutions with colleaguesClear and concise writingAble to work flexible hours and to travel when required (up to 5-10% travel to vessels at port, customer, and/or shipyards may be required) Preferred Additional Skills:Marine experience in vessel systems design and/or operationsWorking knowledge of marine electrical standardsFamiliarity with standards such Coast Guard, Navy, MIL spec, and other marine standardsKnowledge of EMI/EMC management best-practicesExperience with Ethernet networking, serial and CAN bus networksProficiency in PLC programming (ie Allen-Bradley)Proficiency in Lab View and high-level programming languages: C/C++, Python, Linux, MATLABProficiency with microcontroller development and IDEsPCB schematic/layout design with Altium, OrCAD/PADS and other electrical design tools preferredDevelopment Lab management experienceProject management/technical lead experienceMechanical aptitudeWillingness to work across functions including wiring control panels and boxes, outfitting boats, pulling and terminating cable, and mechanical assembly
