Unit Financial Analyst The George Mason University, College of Health & Human Services (CHHS), is launching a search for a Financial Analyst to assist the Department of Global and Community Health in project planning and financial forecasting. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The purpose of this position is to support the Department's operation by overseeing the day-to-day income and expenditures across a variety of budgetary streams (i.e., E&G, external/indirect, and Foundation funds), forecasting future revenues from tuition and grant funding, assisting the department to prioritize funds utilization, monitoring and maintaining documentation to ensure compliance with College and University guidelines, and creating necessary processes and procedures to ensure smooth operations. The incumbent is responsible for creating and providing expenditure analysis reports to manage the College's expenditures and aid decisions of investment/budget allocation.Responsibilities:Monitor departmental funds, including tracking and reconciling all departmental financial requests, to ensure budget availability and compliance;Collaborate with CHHS Office of Research to assist faculty PIs with support and reconciliation of externally funded project budgets;Track faculty effort on external grants to evaluate faculty workload and ensure equity in work distribution as well as forecast future revenue from salary savings and indirect cost recovery;Monitor department enrollment data to forecast future tuition revenue;Work with CHHS Office of Finance and Administration to initiate queries and develop data acquisition and reporting functions to support the Department's priorities;Identify, analyze and resolve financial issues using sound judgment and effective communication with central offices;Maintain financial records that comply with audit standards;Analyze financial data and generate reports to assist the unit leader with financial planning;Assist unit leader and faculty with proposals for education, training, administration and research. This includes extracting data from GMU systems for education, enrollment, and proposal development;Assist unit leader in the management and budget planning for the fiscal year; andCollaborate with the Office Manager and unit leader to complete purchasing tasks for faculty and staff as needed.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or related field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience;Demonstrated experience with budgets and budget administration or equivalent;Experience with budget planning, financial forecasting, development of financial processes, monitoring revenue and expenditures;Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint;Demonstrated skill in effective verbal and written communication;Ability to synthesize financial data from multiple sources; andAbility to maintain positive, collegial relationships with colleagues and University contacts.Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience working with databases preferred (preferably with systems currently used at Mason such as Banner and MicroStrategy);Salary information is processed in this position so experience in handling confidential data is highly preferred;Experience with a large, public, institution of higher education preferred; andGrants and contracts experience.
