Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an assistant editor to work with the National Visual Enterprise editor to help conceive and execute high-impact visual and immersive storytelling.

This editor will play a key role in helping drive coverage that seeks to convey complex information in visually compelling and unconventional ways. They should be adept at collaborating with subject matter experts and working alongside them to find interesting approaches to major national news developments in politics, national security, health and science and other topics. The goal is to help attract new audiences through visual-first stories that integrate photographs, video, graphics, audio and design.

The ideal candidate must be versatile and operate with a quick metabolism. We are looking for someone with three to five years of newsroom experience who is eager to learn about creative forms of storytelling. Along with visual editing, their responsibilities will include reporting and writing text to accompany visual-first pieces. A collaborative spirit, experience working across newsroom teams and a keen eye for visually gripping journalism are highly valued for this position. Experience in line or visual editing is not required.

This position, which is part of a major expansion of The Post's editing ranks, is based in our Washington newsroom.
