We foster innovation, reward performance and creativity, and provide challenges on a routine basis with a well-skilled, knowledgeable, high performance workforce. Please visit www.fema.gov for additional information.

EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

In this position, you will serve as a Human Resource (HR) Specialist, responsible for providing advice, assistance and guidance to customers, supervisors & managers on human resources problems & issues of a conventional or non-conventional nature. Typical assignments include:
  • Advising management on recruitment strategies, sources, and special programs that emphasize affirmative action.
  • Providing continuing technical services involving the identification and cultivation of recruitment avenues and strategies, determining rating and ranking factors, developing crediting plans and assessing applicants' qualifications.
  • Processing recruitment actions including rating and ranking applicants and preparing and issuing referral lists.
  • Providing advice, assistance & guidance to customers, supervisors & managers on a wide range of HR problems & issues.
  • Evaluating and interpreting pertinent legislation and new or revised Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies or directives

Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
