SASSI is seeking a driven, self-reliant, adventurous, certified Veterinary Technician who is willing to travel outside the US on 30, 60, 90 and/or 120-day deployment rotations to manage a clinic for Explosive Device Canines (EDCs) for the US Government in Baghdad, Iraq. Must be US Citizen and have ability to obtain security clearance due to sensitive nature of work. Protect those who protect us. Duties will include but are not limited to: Responsible for the overall health of canines OCONUS Examine animals to detect nature of diseases or injuries Under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, treat sick or injured animals by administering medication, stabilizing fractures, dressing wounds, or performing emergency/stabilizing procedures Under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian, inoculate animals against various diseases, such as rabies and distemper Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images Advise handlers regarding sanitary, feeding, and general care necessary to promote health of animals Educate handlers/trainers about zoonotic diseases Train and supervise workers who handle and care for animals Establish and conduct quarantine and testing procedures preventing the spread of diseases to other animals or to humans while complying with applicable Federal regulations Perform administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining business records Inspect and test animals to detect the presence of communicable diseases Plan and/or advise animal nutrition and reproduction programs (spay/neuter) Inspect animal housing to determine cleanliness and adequacy. Required Qualifications Must be US Citizen with US Passport Active Secret clearance (or must qualify to hold a security clearance) Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a current Veterinary Technician Certificate from an accredited university, other nationally recognized animal technician licenses and certifications (eg Laboratory Animal Technician, Laboratory Animal Technologist, etc.) shall be acceptable if minimum experience requirements are met while possessing this license or certification Have a minimum experience of two (2) years in a private practice or the US military Have a minimum experience of two (2) years in working independently and decision-making in canine medical emergencies, combat-related injuries preferred Have knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo (this includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods) Have a minimum experience of two (2) years in maintaining canine health records and canine international health certificates Have experience with a microchip program that scans, reads and tracks canines Proper documentation and reporting skills Strong customer service Knowledge of current medical technologies and performing diagnostic procedures Sound Judgment Professional Integrity Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 1 - 3 years Bonus/Commission: No
