Network Engineer George Mason University's Information Technology Services (ITS), located on the Fairfax, Va., campus, invites applications for a Network Engineer within the Network and Security Operations team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Responding to trouble tickets;Troubleshooting data networking problems;Installing, configuring, and maintaining network services, equipment and devices;Planning and supporting network and computing infrastructure;Documenting network problems and resolution for future reference;Monitoring system performance and implementing performance tuning;Systems: Windows, Mac, Cisco, Linux;Networking: Switches, Routers, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, latency, VoIP, QoS, BGP, OSPF and MPLS.Required Qualifications:Knowledge of data networking technologies including the Internet Protocol suite, Ethernet, Enterprise Wi-Fi, Telecommunications Cabling, and Network Security systems;Demonstrated hands-on experience with network device configuration;Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data networking problems;Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.Ability to safely and independently lift up to 50 lbs;Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or after hours as required by project workloads or to perform specific tasks;Must be eligible to work in secure computing environments including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree and/or technical training in computers and networking technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience working with network monitoring tools;Experience obtaining support through Cisco maintenance contracts;Working knowledge of a Linux, BSD, or Unix based operating system;Working knowledge of a Microsoft Windows based operating system;Industry or vendor certifications indicating proficiency in configuration network systems;Cisco Network certifications (CCNA/CCENT) are required 12 months after hired.Salary is up to $81,000; commensurate with education and experience.George Mason University is a great place to work where employees are given an opportunity to develop skills and expand horizons.
