Duties

  • You will be sorting and shelving books and periodicals.
  • You will be assisting patrons with printers, microform and photocopy machines.
  • You will be performing a variety of special projects and tasks designed to keep the collection in good order.
  • You will be checking library materials in and out.
  • You will be processing new books which are received from cataloging.
  • You will be answering a variety of questions concerning circulation functions.

Physical Demands
Standing for long periods, moving cart loads of books, moving library equipment and furniture, lifting books about shoulder level, stooping and reporting for work during non-standard work hours.

Work Environment
Work involves everyday risks or discomforts typically associated with libraries, offices, meeting, and training rooms. Work areas are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess

GS-02: Successful completion of a high school or GED diploma.

GS-03: Successful completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study.
