St. Mary's College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary's City is accepting rA$ (C) sumA$ (C) s for the contingent position of Theater Scene Shop Supervisor. This position manages the construction of theater scenery, assists in the construction, placement, and rigging of scenery for departmental productions, performs general maintenance and upkeep of shop machinery and tools, helps to plan and organize the construction projects, and instructs and supervises student workers in the construction of theater scenery. This is a part-time contingent position with an hourly pay rate of $25.00. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Theater with an emphasis in Technical Theater is required. At least two years of practical work experience in the technical preparation and construction of theater scenery and stage units is required. Other requirements include: supervisory skills; mechanical skills in the use of hand and power tools, and gas and electric welders; ability to read and understand floor plans, color renderings, electrical schematics, and advanced construction plans or blueprints; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to instruct on material relevant to technical production labs; ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds; ability to lift and carry materials weighing between 50 - 100 pounds on a daily basis. This position requires prolonged standing, frequent bending or stooping, and climbing of steps and ladders. Occasionally may be required to work on a stage grid at a height of 60 feet. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends, particularly prior to openings of theater production presentations is required. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination, medical and religious exemptions will be considered.
