We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly organized Carpenter. Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland and reporting directly to the Senior Carpenter, the Carpenter will assist the Montgomery County Department of Parks in the completion of major complex projects. Go to our website to learn more: Management Division: The Carpenter will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department's physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department's Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). Examples of Important Duties Tool and Equipment Operation:Uses a variety of manual and power carpentry tools to perform carpentry work on simple projects, or assists on major projects. Operates skid loader, man lift, forklift, and works on scaffold and roofs. Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to job site. Loads and unloads trucks of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials. Sets up equipment and tools for safe operation at job site. Provides routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.Projects: Reads and interprets building plans, blueprints, schematic drawings, and sketches to perform routine carpentry work. Constructs, installs, and repairs all Commission property and items requiring carpentry related work. Builds custom cabinets, desks, shelves, doors, moldings, countertops, conference tables, and displays. Performs minor concrete work associated with carpentry projects (eg, setting post anchors and posts, footings for decks). May guide and check work of Trades Trainees and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trades workers. Administrative: Receives EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) work orders for carpentry projects. Completes required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping. Provides instruction on proper procedures and safety. Important Skills and Characteristics: Knowledge of standard carpentry practices and methods. Knowledge of MOSH and OSHA, fire, and building codes. Skill in operation of carpentry hand and power tools. Knowledge in operation of light construction equipment (eg, forklift, skid loader) and motor vehicles. Ability to understand and apply principles to solve practical problems. Ability read and understand manuals, blueprints, sketches, and Drawings. Ability to complete work orders and other work-related paperwork. Ability to lift-up to 100 pounds. Acquire CPR and first aid certification and work at heights.Preferred Qualifications: Ability to read and understand site plans. Construction experience related to carpentry. Ability read and understand manuals, blueprints, sketches, and Drawings. Knowledge in operation of light construction equipment (eg, forklift, skid loader) and motor vehicles. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).Completion of an approved carpentry apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required and must be in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.Pass Commission medical examination.
