Duties

  • You will analyze and evaluate engineering design, specifications, and system requirements for technical accuracy.
  • You will collaborate with decision makers to identify and solve discrepancies related to project requirements.
  • You will investigate construction to identify major problems and initiate corrective actions
  • You will prepare electrical design drawings, calculations, and specifications to accompany design models generated on electrical engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • You will collaborate with management to develop research and analysis plans.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.


Qualifications

GS-09: In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as an Electrical Engineer performing the following duties: 1) Resolving routine electrical engineering problems in support of facility maintenance/repair projects; 2) Preparing electrical engineering analysis, calculations, designs, and plans using AutoCAD, electrical design/analysis software, specifications, and cost estimates; 3) Preparing preliminary design studies and outlining the design scope of electrical engineering projects; 4) Utilizing and applying knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques including knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields to plan, design, construct and maintain engineering projects; 5) Providing proposed designs, analysis, recommendations and/or results of studies through written or oral presentations.
Or Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering and have one year of appropriate professional experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.
Or Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement and one year of professional engineering experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.

GS-07: In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as an Electrical Engineer performing the following duties: 1) Researching electrical systems and equipment to support electrical engineering projects; 2) Using computer software (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, and AutoCAD) to assist in electrical engineering analysis, calculations, designs, and the development of plans; 3) Reviewing engineering data (i.e., electrical plans, specifications, cost estimates, etc.) for adequacy; 4) Utilizing and applying knowledge of local, state, federal and foreign country laws, codes, and statutory requirements related to electrical engineering design specifications, including NFPA 70 ( National Electrical Code), IEEE C2 (National Electrical Safety Code), and the International Building Code.
Or Successful completion of an engineering bachelor's degree and have one year of appropriate experience as a technician equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or higher.
Or Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
