Job Description

As a Principal Research Analyst for The Washington Post, you will conduct primary research and provide insights to help business units throughout the organization understand our audience and make smart business decisions. Working closely with our world-class Advertising, Marketing and Product departments, and our award-winning Newsroom, you'll help pave the way for bigger and bolder successes in the future.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct custom primary research projects for Washington Post clients throughout the organization. Research insights are used to assist executives in making informed decisions about Washington Post branding and consumer marketing, changes to existing products, and new product launches.
  • Manage all phases of the research process from meeting with clients in order to scope out objectives, to recommending the appropriate methodology, to research study design, to implementation and reporting
    • Develop and program survey questionnaires
    • Manage relationships with third party sample providers and other research vendors
    • Field surveys using Qualtrics survey software
    • Transform research data into actionable insights and recommendations
    • Create and present customized presentations for internal and external clients
  • Develop moderator guides for qualitative research and moderate in-depth one-on-one consumer interviews
  • Manage our Washington Post reader research panels


Requirements include:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in primary market research/audience insights and/or data analysis (experience working in media industry desired)
  • Extensive Excel and PowerPoint experience
  • Experience with Qualtrics or other online survey tool, and SPSS, Q or other statistical software
  • Experience conducting in-depth research/usability interviews, and/or moderating focus groups is desired
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization tool is desired
