Duties

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new, first of its kind, cross-Department coordination center, working collaboratively throughout DHS to advance this critical mission set.

Under the direction of the CCHT's Strategic Communications Advisor, select and design various elements of visual products in support of CCHT communications needs.

Assist in the development of CCHT organizational brand, create exhibit and display designs, information graphics for print and digital products, informational placemats, collateral/marketing materials, promotional and presentational materials, and publication designs.

Leverage strong conceptualization, critical thinking, product development, and communication skills and be highly adept at shaping the CCHT's visual needs to effectively communicate CCHT's core messages to stakeholders across a varied spectrum.

  • Must be a current permanent Federal employee
  • Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.
  • Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
  • Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
  • Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*

Qualifications

Qualifications required:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of visual design.
  • Knowledge of the technical characteristics associated with various methods of visual display.
  • Ability to present subject matter information in a visual form that will convey the intended message to, or have the desired effect on, the intended audience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe in Design, Microsoft PowerPoint, Doodly, image scanning, printers/plotters, and other graphic arts related equipment/software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to prepare documentation and instructions on how to conduct design projects; interpret information; present visual synopsis of data; and establish and maintain contacts with counterparts in other agencies and contractors.
  • Expert knowledge of a broad range of technical and creative methods and practices to extend and modify existing techniques and develop new approaches for the analysis of problems relating to the design, development, and production of visual materials.
  • Knowledge of governmental publication projection policies and procedures, and facilities.
  • A Portfolio is required.

    If the position requires a security clearance, employees must have a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance to placement AND must maintain that level of clearance while performing in the position.

    Selected applicants for a JDA are requested to fulfill the items below during the JDA:
  • Complete the DHS Training Course 15 days prior to the arrival to the JDA.
  • Complete the DHS Joint Duty Assignment Progress Plan to include:
    • Phase 1: Establish assignment objectives within the first 30 days of the JDA.
    • Phase 2: Complete a self-assessment of the duties performed at the mid-point of the JDA.
    • Phase 3: Complete a final review within the last 30 days of the JDA.
  • Complete 12 hours of professional development using Skillsoft courses, videos, and books in conjunction with the established assignment objectives for the JDA.
  • Attend each of the DHS Joint Duty Program Director's quarterly webinars (1 hour per quarter).
