DCB is recruiting a Counselor or Social Worker (bilingual preferred) who will provide direct services to students. The Bilingual Counselor/Social Worker provides direct mental health support to students and consults with teachers, parents, and students. In addition, as a member of the Student Support Team, they help provide a proactive approach to supporting students who are struggling academically and behaviorally. DCB is seeking motivated staff who are committed to the school's mission and will bring professionalism, urgency, and dedication to the school environment.All staff are expected to work collaboratively within our professional learning community (PLC).Primary Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.Student Support:Provides direct services for students per their IEP.Provides consultation to teachers and parents/families.Provides short-term support to children who are experiencing social-emotional and/or behavioral problems.Provides individual therapy to children experiencing behavioral problems utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques (eg play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy)Facilitates social skills groups.Provide social emotional lessons to classrooms and small groups.Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments for general and special education students.Develop Behavior Intervention Plans based on Functional Behavior Assessments and train staff on their implementation.Assists in the screening and assessment of students' social-emotional and behavioral needs, including completing classroom observations.Monitors progress towards social-emotional goals via detailed data tracking.Updates services via service trackers and logs in SEDs in a timely manner.Complete progress reports in SEDS.Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to all aspects of student information.School Wide SupportProvides specialized, data-driven consultation to instructional staff to support effective classroom management, preventive interventions, and behavior modification plans.Participates in school processes designed to help children in need of extra support, including the Student Support Team and Multi-disciplinary Team.Communicates frequently with school administrators, school staff, and parents.Maintains necessary records.Understands, and practices in accordance with, federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families; such as, child protection/child abuse, special education, education rights and privacy.Seeks out professional development opportunities for oneself.Maintains cooperative, respectful and supportive relationships with colleagues.Connects resources for the surrounding communities.Refers children, parents or families to community agencies where the need is indicated.Acts as the school-based liaison for students with community-based services and supports.Serves as the school-based homeless and foster care liaison.Plans and provides school-wide programming to support responsive parenting, parent involvement and identified school-needs.Adhere to the No Nonsense Nurture expectations for managing student relations and behaviorsMeet all expectations as outlined by the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning FrameworkAbide by the DC Bilingual 7 AgreementsDemonstrate dedication to the Professional Learning Community (PLC) by supporting school-wide initiatives and programsDemonstrates professionalism in all interactions and duties.Other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTSMaster's Degree in Social Work or CounselingActive Licensure through the DC Department of Health, National Certified Social Worker or Counselor certification preferredBilingual preferred (Spanish/English)Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgroundsTwo or more years of special education experience (preferably in an urban or culturally diverse setting)SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTSThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
