Job Description

The multimedia specialist researches and writes video scripts and develops videos on a wide range of topics; takes video footage; and edits the footage to create professional storytelling videos that convey the successes, messages, diversity, and brand of the school division. Specialized technical skills are required to utilize video graphics appropriately and convey desired messages clearly at the highest level of professionalism. Editing and developing footage taken by others into professional content that illustrates the desired message is required. Providing video support to meet the needs of both school and division-wide functions is a key responsibility of the subject position. Collaboration with colleagues is essential and required for use of photos and videos on social media, websites, newsletters, and other needs. Support the team with still photography to capture students, families, and staff in schools and the community to contribute to storytelling and media relations.

This position reports to the assistant director of communications.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in video, video production, or a related field preferred. Master's degree is desirable.

Certificates & Licenses: None required.

Experience: Six years of experience including video pre-production and production processes such as interviewing, script production, video creation, editing, and graphics; some experience with still photography is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work under general supervision, with considerable knowledge of the school division's organization, policies, regulations, and the ability to exercise tact and sound judgment.
  • Knowledge of video and photography best practices and techniques, and proficiency with current technology for performance of duties.
  • Possesses an equity mindset, with the ability to reflect ACPS diversity in communications products and contribute to communications for a diverse audience.
  • Experienced in developing video communications strategy and producing creative, effective, and engaging visual content to support school division goals.
  • Skillful in collaborating with colleagues within the Office of Communications, across departments, and with subjects of photography and video shoots, including PreK-12 students and staff.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and lead video-photo strategy for the school division and collaborate with colleagues across schools and departments to help achieve broader communications campaigns and goals.
  • Research background material, create video plans, and write scripts for videos on a wide range of topics.
  • Create professional storytelling videos in a variety of styles on demand that convey the messages/brand of the school division for use in various ACPS communication channels.
  • Insert video graphics into video footage where necessary to enhance the message.
  • Edit footage taken by others into content that looks professional and conveys the necessary message.
  • Take video footage at events or for informational purposes, and coordinate with school-based staff to ensure compliance with media opt-out directives for students.
  • Edit video footage using the latest techniques and practices.
  • Assist with taking still photographs as needed, per the direction of the supervisor, and ensure compliance with media opt-out directives for students.
  • Caption video material to meet current compliance standards.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of video equipment and keep the image and graphic files organized and up-to-date for use by all communications staff members.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
  • Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
