An Overview
As part of OHA’s AAM accredited museum system, the Development Officer is a key position responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of all aspects of the special revenue fundraising efforts of OHA, which include annual giving; event, program and exhibit sponsorships; major gifts; planned giving; museum membership; and donor cultivation and recognition. The Development Officer works under the supervision of OHA’s Director to plan and execute fundraising activities. He/she also manages OHA’s grant identification, application and execution process.

This requires excellent public speaking, listening, and writing abilities crafted for a range of audiences. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of donors. The Opportunity
  • Develops, organizes and implements strategies, proposals, presentations and one-on-one gift solicitation to attract and retain annual, major gift and planned giving support
  • Responsible for identifying, researching, soliciting, and cultivating corporate, foundation and individual gifts
  • Oversees letter appeals and online giving initiatives
  • Identifies grant opportunities, ensures grants are submitted in a timely and compelling fashion and that grant requirements are executed properly and in a timely fashion
  • Works to promote all fundraising special events, all donor events, donor recognition and cultivation efforts
  • Meets or exceeds the fundraising goals set out at the beginning of fiscal year or targeted project
  • Leads the Museum’s donor stewardship efforts, including but not limited to written donor reports and donor recognition on digital signage and website
  • Ensures records in Bloomerang donor software are up to date, and all relevant and necessary reports are run
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in professional fundraising or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and five years of experience in professional fundraising. Proficient writing and communication skills as well as proficiency in Bloomerang and/or other development technologies for prospect identification and research.

This position may require some evening and weekend work as well as the ability to climb 3 flights of stairs to reach the office and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds with or without accommodation to set up tables and chairs for museum events.
